В статье анализируются роль и место епископата Церкви Англии в событиях «конституционной революции» 1828-1832 гг., явившейся поворотным моментом в процессе демократизации английского государства. Епископы Церкви Англии наиболее негативно отнеслись к завершающему акту «конституционной революции» - парламентской реформе, серьезно подрывавшей основы английского варианта «старого порядка», важной частью которого была государственная церковь. Вместе с тем значительная часть епископов оказалась способной изменить свою позицию и поддержать реформу, понимая неизбежность происходящих общественных перемен.

The article analyzes the role and place of the episcopate of the Church of England in the Constitutional Revolution (1828-1832), which was the turning point in the process of democratization of English state. Reaction of the bishops on the last act of the Constitutional Revolution was most negative, because the parliamentary reform very seriously undermined the Ancient Regime in England, and the Church was the important part of it. At the same time part of the bishops understood the inevitability of social changes and was able to change position and to support the idea of reform.
